Dr. Simeon Maravanyika is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History. He holds a PhD in African Environmental History, as well as Master and Bachelor of Arts Honours degrees in African Economic History. A dedicated educator and mentor, he has successfully supervised students to completion at the undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral levels. His research explores the intersection of agrarian and environmental history and rural development, with a particular focus on the role of commodities and ‘anti-commodities.’ Recently, his work has expanded into African social histories, examining the political dimensions of death and mortuary rituals in post-colonial Africa.
