Dr Cynthia Hlobsile Mkoko is a Lecturer and Head of the Department of Academic Communication Skills. Her teaching focuses on academic literacies and communication across various disciplines. She also teaches Advanced Topics in Phonology and Morphology, a course offered in the Master’s in African Languages and Literature programme. Dr Mkoko has a Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from SUNY at Stonybrook, and a PhD in Linguistics from the University of the Witwatersrand. She has a strong background in linguistics, with research interests primarily in siSwati Phonology and Bantu Linguistics. She also pursues research in Translanguaging, with emphasis on Multilingual Communication in Educational and Social Contexts.
